What does it mean when my Volvo s40 brake warning light comes on my dash?

I have a 2004 volvo s40 and my brake warning light started flashing when i turn the steering wheel to the rightside while driving. it does not come on if i'm driving straight or turning left. What does that mean?|||

The warning lamp for the brake fluid lights up if the brake fluid level drops to a level where the brake function is

affected. The float which indicates the low fluid level is suspended in the brake fluid reservoir. With that being said, your vehicle is low on brake fluid. When you turn a corner the the float shifts to the side and the light starts to flash. Check your brake fluid. |||The warning light means that there is a pressure differential between the two cylinders of the master cylinder.

This can be a result of:

1. Low brake fluid; check and fill with the proper fluid type; you can get this at any parts store. Easy to do yourself. Fill both cylinder chambers to nearly overflowing.

2. A master cylinder rubber seal leak or a break line leak or a wheel cylinder leak. Check for wetness on the inside of each tire to see if it is a wheel cylinder, check for wetness around master cylinder lines for master cylinder leak. Leaking wheel cylinders or master cylinder needs to be serviced.

Because it is seen when turning right, I feel that it can be a brake line leak on a line feeding one of the front wheels; check for wetness or a leak there. Needs to be fixed.|||I had a BMW that would flash the brake warning light when I turned a corner and couldn't figure it out for a while until someone told me to check the brake wear sensor wire for wear. Sure enough, I pulled the wheel off and traced the sensor wire from the wheel in towards the suspension and on the back side of one of the bends the wire sheathing was split open and when I turned the wheel one of the wires kinked and shorted out. Could be something like this or as some of the other posters mentioned, it could be something as simple as being low on fluid. If you are low on fluid please follow the excellent advice of my fellow posters and do a thorough check to find out where you're losing fluid at, brake fluid doesn't just disappear, it has to leak out somewhere and if you don't find the leak your problems could escalate from being an annoyance to having no brakes! Hope this helps.|||refer to your owners manual depending on the light it could be fluid level or a brake pad warning light but the manual will tell you |||Check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder, its likely low.|||abs problum , low brake fluid level, or braking system problum|||You might be low on brake fluid which would probably indicate a leak. You should have your car looked at. Good luck!
